THE YARN
The super-soft wool Genevieve has selected for the Laide is locally sourced and spun by a celebrated Aberdeenshire mill. The secret to its luxurious handle is the fact it comes from the ‘first clip’ of the lamb – an initial shear known for its unrivalled softness. Finer and more expensive, it produces a garment of exceptionally high quality without compromising on its authentic Shetland character. Once knitted, it’s then brushed using the teasel thistle – a rarely-used specialist technique that further enhances the sumptuously soft hand feel.
THE DETAILS
Genevieve creates Laide’s dramatic burgundy hue through a carefully-balanced and truly unique colour melange. Capturing the richness of burgundy wine, it blends ruby, spiced plum and claret red with hints of charcoal grey.
SUSTAINABILITY CREDENTIALS
Completely natural and highly effective, the teasel thistle has for centuries been used to brush and soften yarn. By elongating the fibres, it not only creates a beautifully soft feel but lends the wool a relaxed and subtly felted quality that no man-made brush could match. In addition, the sweater’s fully-fashioned, seamless design not only ensures a perfect fit, but barely any yarn waste.
