The super-soft wool Genevieve has selected for the Laide is locally sourced and spun by a celebrated Aberdeenshire mill. The secret to its luxurious handle is the fact it comes from the ‘first clip’ of the lamb – an initial shear known for its unrivalled softness. Finer and more expensive, it produces a garment of exceptionally high quality without compromising on its authentic Shetland character.

Once knitted, it’s then brushed using the teasel thistle – a rarely-used specialist technique that further enhances the sumptuously soft hand feel. Completely natural and highly effective, the teasel thistle has for centuries been used to brush and soften yarn. By elongating the fibres, it not only creates a beautifully soft feel but lends the wool a relaxed and subtly felted quality that no man-made brush could match.

The Leslie sweater has a fully-fashioned, seamless design that not only ensures a perfect fit, but barely any yarn waste. Made in the UK, this style brings together the innovation of the seamless knitting technique and heritage skills with the brushing of the traditional Scottish spun wool.
