THE YARN
For the Maddis, Genevieve blends Italian lambswool and cashmere yarns for a sumptuous hand-feel that’s lightweight enough to be worn all year round. Presented in a luscious mint melange, it’s accented with a confetti-inspired scattering of emerald green, navy and off white tweeds.

Both our lambswool and cashmere are certified for their sustainable provenances. RWS (Responsible Wool Standards) lambswool means that not only the sheep that produce it but the land on which they graze, is actively protected. Likewise, SFA (Sustainable Fibre Alliance) certified cashmere ensures high animal welfare standards, reduced environmental impact and a more secure livelihood for herders.

THE DETAILS
Here at GS, we see buttons as an integral part of any cardigan. Ours are made from sustainable Codelite and custom-dyed to a soft pink grey by Courtney & Co. – the last button makers in the UK.

The buttons are made from Codelite – a completely natural and biodegradable product created by curing and hardening the naturally occurring proteins found in milk. Codelite first became a staple of button manufacturing in the early twentieth century, and by reviving it Courtney & Co. commit to reducing the amount of plastic within the industry.

The Maddis is crafted by a family-run Scottish mill that places craftsmanship, technology and sustainability at the heart of its core values. Genevieve works with this mill not only because it strives for the highest quality manufacturing standards, but does so in the most environmentally responsible ways. A world leader in the production of carded yarns, by using only 100% renewable energy it reduces its CO2 emissions to zero. Additionally, the sweater’s fully-fashioned design ensures as little yarn waste as possible.
