Crafted by twisting together discontinued end-of-line yarns, the result is a stylish blend of eye-catching and striking diamond colour block with completely unique colour combinations.
THE YARN
Made from soft, organic GOTS certified cotton, these socks are custom-spun by Genevieve herself to create a selection of totally unique colour blends – in this case bright red, vibrant blue and opic white melange. These beautiful marls are then twinned with a contrasting diamond argyle in vibrant blue.
THE DETAILS
Not only does the Samar Argyle provide exceptional comfort with its soft yarn and seamless construction, but the complexity of its contrast-colour design should not be overlooked. Creating this pattern is a highly complicated technique that not only challenges traditional intarsia machines but – in true reflection of Genevieve’s slow fashion values – also takes a long time.
SUSTAINABILITY CREDENTIALS
To create the Samar sock, Genevieve approached a family-run mill based in Derbyshire, and after spotting the unusable end-of-line yarns, decided to rescue them from simply being thrown away. Many of the yarns were small batches of discontinued colours, so Genevieve let her creativity run wild, twisting them together and producing completely unique blends out of otherwise wasted product. Twisting the yarns together can take hours and is something most factories wouldn’t have time for; but for Genevieve, it’s all about embracing the joy of slow manufacturing – and in doing so creating something truly original and beautiful.
