THE YARN 
The super-soft wool Genevieve has selected for the Lenize is locally sourced and spun by a celebrated Aberdeenshire mill. The secret to its luxurious handle is the fact it comes from the ‘first clip’ of the lamb – an initial shear known for its unrivalled softness. Finer and more expensive, it produces a garment of exceptionally high quality without compromising on its authentic Shetland character. Once knitted, it’s then brushed using the teasel thistle – a rarely-used specialist technique that further enhances the sumptuously soft hand-feel. Genevieve creates the Lenize’s dark tonal hue through a carefully-balanced and rich colour melange of burgundy.

THE DETAILS
Here at GS, we see buttons as an integral part of any cardigan. Ours are made from sustainable Codelite and custom-dyed to a deep burgundy by Courtney & Co. – the last button makers in the UK.

The buttons are made from Codelite – a completely natural and biodegradable product created by curing and hardening the naturally occurring proteins found in milk. Codelite first became a staple of button manufacturing in the early twentieth century, and by reviving it Courtney & Co. commit to reducing the amount of plastic within the industry.

The Lenize is crafted by a family-run Scottish mill that places craftsmanship, technology and sustainability at the heart of its core values. Genevieve works with this mill not only because it strives for the highest quality manufacturing standards, but does so in the most environmentally responsible ways. A world leader in the production of carded yarns, by using only 100% renewable energy it reduces its CO2 emissions to zero. Additionally, the sweater’s fully-fashioned design ensures as little yarn waste as possible.
